Naveed Muslim Alkhattat
Contemporary Calligrapher & Information Scientist
Naveed Muslim Alkhattat, born in 1982, is a Pakistani contemporary calligrapher whose artistic journey reflects a unique fusion of classical discipline and modern expression. While his professional career has been dedicated to the field of Information Science, his lifelong passion has remained rooted in the art of calligraphy.
Having received all his education in Lahore, he earned a Master's degree in Information Science from the University of the Punjab in 2006. Since then, he has served in various reputable institutions as an Information Scientist and is currently associated with a public sector university in Pakistan.
Unlike many contemporary artists, Naveed's path into calligraphy was not shaped by formal institutional training. Instead, he had the privilege of studying classical Thuluth calligraphy under the guidance of Ustad Muhammad Ali Zahid, one of Pakistan's internationally recognized master calligraphers. This mentorship provided him with a strong foundation in the classical traditions of Islamic calligraphy.
Although he initially explored traditional forms and compositions, his artistic vision gradually evolved toward modern and contemporary expression. Driven by a desire to discover a visual language of his own, he embarked on a long journey of experimentation, exploration, and creative inquiry. The result was the emergence of a distinctive style that combines the spiritual essence of classical calligraphy with the freedom and dynamism of contemporary art.
Having participated in numerous group exhibitions over the years, Naveed presented his first solo exhibition in September 2026, showcasing his unique artistic approach. The exhibition marked a significant milestone in his career and received appreciation for its originality, visual energy, and innovative interpretation of calligraphic forms.
Today, through his work, Naveed Muslim Alkhattat continues to explore new possibilities within the rich tradition of Islamic calligraphy, creating artworks that bridge heritage and contemporary aesthetics while maintaining a deeply personal artistic identity.
